Why WWE 2K24 will continue the series’ upward trajectory

It is similar to what has been done before WWE 2K14 and its 30 years of Wrestlemania mode for sure, but this rebrand looks to promise a more immersive experience than any previous showcase mode to date, and will appeal to longtime wrestling fans along with newbies who will be treated with an excellent history lesson

There is also an extensive list of Wrestlemania matches to recreate. As soon as a fighter is suitably weakened, they can be charged at the back before a button mashing sequence begins, providing a dramatic finish as one struggles to close the doors while the other desperately tries to escape. It sure is an exciting show, and the use of the ambulance at ringside certainly gets the crowd and commentary team going.

During fights, you’ll likely engage in the new turn-based minigame of trading blows, a one-handed back-and-forth between opponents that’s typical of fighting matches. Players must hold down the attack button to fill a meter before releasing it into the highlighted area, taking a hit in the process. There is a slim golden section so if the counter stops here, it will land a more powerful hit. The three-hit first leaves your opponent stunned and exposed to a more devastating attack. It appears to be a humorous addition that will replicate real-life wrestling performance, and it doesn’t appear that success or failure when trading strikes will affect the outcome of matches in any significant way. It’s just extra seasoning on an already well-done steak.

More humor is found WWE 2K24 new weapon capacity. Another long-awaited addition, players can now throw weapons at their opponents (although this feature is admittedly not entirely new. There was no wwe a game from a couple of decades ago that already featured this? It’s hard to remember, but with throwing weapons at an opponent’s head a mainstay of real-life fighting for so long, it would seem strange that throwing weapons hasn’t been a core mechanic until now.) The backstage brawl also makes the most of the new weapons, with presumably more bric-a-brac between crates and such. This mode returns from previous iterations and on the surface looks largely the same, apart from now offering four player support along with a fully functional elevator and breakable windows. The elevator is strange, as while the wrestlers fight to get in, they seem to exit together as if they had become friends on the short ride down one floor. Maybe there’s still a loading animation in the game that will cause one to launch the other. I would certainly agree with the general presentation of the latter wwe iteration

The presentation also covers the pacing and strategy of combat, providing ample theatricality that matches real-life combat. The most notable way this is illustrated is in the new super finishers where players can store a three-bar completion gauge through dominant play. It’s a small iteration that’s potentially more impactful than the exchange of blows, as it rewards patient play and creates a dramatic build-up before players unleash a devastating final blow that will leave their opponent limp.

Real referees, using the announcer table to perform moves, jumps and finishers, new rewards, expanded movesets, improved blood systems and faded face paint, new perspectives on the ramp camera and the small but very welcome rope that dive into multiple opponents. are just a handful of other incremental improvements that are expected WWE 2K24. If last year’s version was among the best fighting games ever made, Visual Concepts largely sticks to the same formula, while adding minor but important improvements, surely we have a new champion in our hands Whether this will end up being one of the biggest games of the year remains to be seen.
